Christine H. Barrington is an Education Consultant at ACCESS! Education Consulting.

CHRIS, is a 1998 graduate of the University of Massachusetts Law School (formerly the Southern New England School of Law), currently focusing her professional practice on Disability and Education Law issues, with a concentration of working towards ensuring all children receive their appropriate education whether that may be through general education initiatives, best practice approaches, special education, equal access accommodations and otherwise, especially, since 2003. Prior to her interests in Disability and Education Law, CHRIS was a practicing associate Criminal Defense Attorney with one of Boston, Massachusetts's most reputable, charismatic and radical attorneys, Barry P. Wilson, from who she learned one of her most basic ofcore beliefs "... when you standup on behalf of another, you must advocate with unyielding conviction and belief in what you are saying - or nobody else will believe you either ... and I definitely do."

Complementing her school and educational endeavors, CHRIS currently accepts specially appointed educational 'Surrogate Parent' assignments, pursuant to the Individuals With Disabilities Education Improvement Act ('IDEIA'), by both the Connecticut State Department of Education and the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, where she is individually charged with ensuring children who are wards of the state receive a free and appropriate public education. "Honored by appointments as an 'IDEIA Surrogate Parent', I have had an unprecedented first-hand opportunity to observe hundreds of hours of instructional and related service provision, and participate in an equal number of hours at IEP team meetings, each experience individually and collectively enhancing my abilities to collaboratively navigate public education systems, ensure the educational needs of each child I represent are adequately and sufficiently met, and maintain the integrity between the parties."

A native Rhode Islander, CHRIS attended the Wheeler School in Providence, Rhode Island, from 1979-1989, and then went on to attend the University of Rhode Island graduating with both a Bachelor of Art degree and a Master of Public Administration degree. CHRIS is the daughter of a dentist and retired United States Army Lieutenant Colonel, and veteran Rhode Island House of Representatives legislator, Eileen Slattery Naughton. CHRIS has one brother, a board certified Rhode Island family podiatric surgeon. CHRIS currently lives in Connecticut with her husband, Bryan, a nationally recognized and published agronomist with Billy Casper Golf and a notable graduate of the University of Rhode Island’s oldest turf grass college in the country, and their three children, Bryan, John and Eileen.

So often in life, the things you regard as an impediment turn out to be great good fortune.

Growing up in Rhode Island, attending law school in Massachusetts, and now currently residing in Connecticut, gives me a broadened perspective and unique understanding for knowing what is and what can be accomplished in developing an appropriate educational program for your child.
